Purvakarmas- These are preparatory techniques by
which the body is processed or prepared so that the Panchakarma can be
performed. The Panchakarmas should not be done directly without undergoing
the 'Purvakarmas' and doing so will cause degeneration or damage to the
body. If one takes only Purvakarmas but not Panchakarmas, the stable result
of the treatment will be less, as the elimination of the impurities within
the body are not taken care of.
Some Purvakarmas are Abhyangam, Dhara, Pizhichil, Naovara, Kizhi,
Shirovasti, Tharpanam (Kateevasti), Lepanam, Upanaham etc.
